The Sumud Global Flotilla announced that several of its vessels were “illegally intercepted and boarded by the Israeli Occupation Forces in international waters,” about 70 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.

However, “it will continue its advance,” according to the international coalition in a statement, published on October 1.

The assault took place around 8:30 p.m. (local time).

The Flotilla, made up of about 50 ships, denounced that Israel boarded the ships Alma, Surius and Adara. According to the statement, before the assault Israeli forces intentionally damaged communications to “block distress signals and stop the live broadcast.”

Organizers lost communication with many other vessels and are “working diligently to confirm the whereabouts and condition of participants and crew.”

The international flotilla called on world leaders to demand the safety and release of all people on board.

They pointed out through social networks that “the flotilla did not violate any law. What is illegal is the Israeli genocide, the illegal blockade of Gaza and Israel’s use of hunger as a weapon.”

Israeli media confirmed that the assault was a planned operation.

Reports indicate that 600 police officers were mobilized, with eight ambulances and several hospitals on high alert to attend to the operation. The deportation of the crew members is expected to take place on the night of Thursday, October 2.

The recent interception of the Sumud Global Flotilla in international waters was preceded by signs of threats. Activists reported detecting more than 20 unidentified vessels on their radar just three nautical miles away, signaling a possible naval blockade. “We will not be intimidated,” they declared.

At the same time, the organizers of the Flotilla denounced the passivity of the Italian and Spanish military vessels that were in the area.

According to its position, the presence of the European vessels was limited to “observation work”, an absence of effective support that, according to the Flotilla, makes it easier for Israel to carry out interceptions in international waters and consolidate its “illegal siege of Gaza
